Unconditionally and Irrevocably in Love … with Bella Swan’s Style

Unconditionally and Irrevocably in Love … with Bella Swan’s Style

By: Kasey Dugan...

If you survived the 2000s, you most likely remember a little book series called Twilight that took the world by storm. Twilight was the biggest-selling book in 2008 — and was adapted into a film that became the sixth highest-grossing film of all time (at the time of its release).

You’d think that in 2025, we’d be over this nostalgic love story. Instead, the Twilight Saga is sweeping in more fans than ever thanks to social media and streaming services. The #Twilight hashtag has garnered over 10 billion views in TikTok trends; the first film sat comfortably in fifth place across Netflix global charts last month. And now that the Saga will be leaving Netflix on June 30th, 2025 (only sixty days since it was added), fans old and new are finding ways to keep the fantasy alive.

And what better way to do this than to dress like Bella Swan? That’s right — “Bella Swan Style” is back and bigger than ever before.

If you thought that Bella Swan’s wardrobe is limited to autumn, you’re sorely mistaken. Across the country, the weather has been unseasonably gloomy these last few weeks (some might say it’s been under a near constant cover of clouds and rain). This, paired with rewatching the films, has been inspiring fans to play into the “Hoa Hoa” weather.

We’re also quickly approaching Summerween: a holiday mash-up of summer activities and Halloween, as invented by social media. This one’s for all the lovers of horror movies in July, or sitting around the campfire swapping ghost stories. Is Summerween just another opportunity for social media content and retail marketing? Maybe, but it’s working: the girls want watermelon jack-o-lanterns, cheesy slasher movies, and pool parties with spooky accessories.

And besides, it’s never too late to start planning for fall outfits.

In order to dress like Bella Swan, a few things need to be understood. One is that fans are aiming to copy Bella’s looks in the movies, not the books. Bella’s style in the books is quite … conservative, to say the least. With book-Edward, at one point, describing her maxi-length khaki skirt as “utterly indecent.”

Bella in the movies is effortless, tomboyish, and utterly 2000s. This is the look that fans want to recreate — whether it’s going to school, going out to do errands, or sitting in front of their window while Lykke Li’s “Possibility” plays in the background.

Luckily, Bella Swan’s style is fairly easy to recreate. She’s into mid-rise jeans with a slight flare; converse sneakers; simple henleys; structured jackets; messenger bags; and occasionally, headbands.

The Depop community is feral about replicating Bella’s exact outfits — with searches for “Bella Swan” reaching 16,000 results. Her infamous gray-blue jacket by B.B. Dakota sells for as much as $200+ on second hand sites. Her Goody “Stay-Put” Headband, which originally retailed for less than $8, is now selling on sites like Mercari for close to $100.

A few blogs have had success identifying several pieces of the Twilight cast’s wardrobe. Instagram account @thetwilightcloset has sourced everything from Bella’s mittens to Bella’s raincoat — even if they were only shown for a minute on screen.

But if you don’t have a casual $300 to drop on Bella’s exact items, here’s what I recommend for getting a wardrobe inspired by this clumsy, fragile human.

Source henleys from Abercrombie, Aeropostale, Hollister, and Free People. Bella’s color palette is mainly earth-tones, but feel free to tailor the palette to your liking. She often opts for long sleeves, or she’ll layer tank tops under a ¾ length henley sleeve.

Next, source vintage jeans from Levi’s, Joes, Hollister, Abercrombie, and Lucky Brand. Bella typically opts for mid-rise (and occasionally high-rise) inseams. And she almost always dons a slight flare or bootcut fit — even if that flare gets bunched up inside a pair of boots.

As for jackets, Bella opts for function more often than fashion. Since the weather in Forks is cold and wet, her outerwear is meant to accommodate that. She’s also a lover of neutrals, opting for browns, grays, and tans.

For shoes, Bella loves her Converse sneakers. But she occasionally pulls out her Hunter rain boots or combat boots. And while Alice does eventually force Bella into a pair of Jimmy Choo heels, I’ve decided to exclude those from the list.

Some honorable mentions would include Bella’s flannel short-sleeves — which she often layers over a long sleeve — and her dress looks, featuring a purple tiered prom dress and olive green midi dress. When she’s feeling romantic, she can be seen in a peasant-style top. Also, don’t forget her skinny black headband — which you can find in most drugstores.

Whether you’re Team Edward, Team Jacob, or even Team Charlie in 2025, the unwavering support for Bella’s wardrobe is just as strong. And even if you’re not a fan of this supernatural love story, you can’t deny that these late 2000s outfits are pure comfort and nostalgia — something our thrift community is always chasing.

Check out our Bella Swan edit to become just as outdoorsy, tomboyish, grunge, and 2000s as her.
